　　　This is HBC Italy Square, dedicated to international friendship. In commemoration of "Italy in Japan 2001," a series of events introducing Italian art, culture, technology and other features, we are presenting replicas of the "Trevi Fountain" and the "Mouth of Truth."

The main Statue
"Trevi Fountain"

　　The "Trevi Fountain" is an example of baroque style that was built by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762. The Poli Palace is in its background. We have reproduced an energetic Neptune, standing against the backdrop of the arch of victory in the center, and Triton, full of vigor as he maneuvers two sea horses on his sides. The legend that if you throw a coin over your shoulder into the water, you will return to Rome, is well known.

The medium-sized statue
"Mouth of Truth"

　　The medium-sized statue to the east side of the HBC Italy Square is a replica of the "Mouth of Truth", a famous landmark from the film "Roman Holiday." Symbolizing a mask of the river god, the "Mouth of Truth", a sewer cover dating back to the ancient Roman age, is said to "snap off the hand of a liar if you put your hand inside the mouth."
