洞爺観光ホテルの屋上から、2008年北海道洞爺湖サミットの会場となるウインザーホテル方向を望みます。 湖畔近くにある有珠山(737m)は過去100年間に4回噴火しています。特に1977年、2000年の噴火で湖畔の観光地は甚大な被害を受けたが、その試練に打ち勝ち、北海道を代表する観光地のひとつとして通年大勢の観光客で賑わいます。

Usu (737m) has erupted 4 times in the past 100 years, with the nearby lakeside spa resort on the receiving end of the most serious damage in 1977 and 2000. Having survived these ordeals the area is now one of Hokkaido’s leading tourist resorts visited by many tourists throughout the year.
